This 1 Day Mabamba Shoebill excursion is ideal for bird lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and travellers looking for an unforgettable Uganda adventure.
Morning: Entebbe / Kampala – Mabamba Swamp – Shoebill Tracking
Pickup at 6:30 AM from your hotel in Entebbe or 6:00 AM from Kampala. Drive to Mabamba Swamp (1 hour from Entebbe, 1.5 hours from Kampala).
At Mabamba landing site, board a local wooden canoe with an experienced shoebill guide (2-3 people per canoe). Glide through narrow channels of papyrus for 2-4 hours searching for the shoebill.
Your guide knows where the shoebills hunt lungfish. You will get very close – amazing for photos! The shoebill is huge (5 feet tall) and looks like a dinosaur. Besides the shoebill, see the African jacana, malachite kingfisher, papyrus gonolek, swamp flycatcher, and many more.
After the shoebill sighting, return to shore. Have lunch at a local restaurant (fish from Lake Victoria).
Afternoon: Optional Add-ons (Choose One):
Option A: Return directly to Entebbe/Kampala – arrival by 1:00 PM. Perfect if you have an afternoon flight.
Option B: Visit Entebbe Botanical Gardens or Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (Zoo) – add 2 hours.
